This work is developed from a symposium sponsored by the Division of Agrochemicals at the 204th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society, Washington, DC, USA, August 24-28, 1992. This study explores the role of biomarker data in evaluating the impact of human environmental and occupations exposure to pesticides, and discusses two basic types of biomarkers – residue analysis of parent compounds or metabolites and endpoints representing interactions between xenobiotic and endogenous components like enzyme inhibition, mutation, protein adducts, receptor complexes and antibody-antigen complexes. The book also: characterizes the molecular basis for various biomarker methods, and examines structure activity relationships; surveys biomarker measurement methods currently used in the research community; and examines methods for biomarker data analysis and applications of these methods to risk assessment.
